She's Here!

Wednesday September 14th was just another work day for the both of us... We came home had some dinner, and were relaxing watching who knows what on tv, when I was startled to feel some sudden pain.  I didn't think anything of it as it went away after a brief few seconds...but then it continued to return, more frequently, and more severe.  I proceeded to pace around the house while making Tim very nervous watching me and discretely timing the intervals as they taught us in class.

I wasn't sure if this was the real deal, as we were still over a week away from our due date. The contractions continued for two hours, about every 5 minutes apart.  About 9:00 we decided we better give a call to the soon-to-be grandparents again so they could come and pick up Jersey.  Mom came to pick up Jersey and we called the hospital and they told us to come in.

We were admitted around 10:30 after all the questions and a brief exam and ultrasound.  I was already dilated 5 cm when we got to the hospital. I was thinking great..half way there and the pain wasn't too bad yet!  Boy, did the pain come on strong after that!  we took a few laps around the hallway, tried the birthing ball, but nothing helped the pain at this point.  My labor was what they call dysfunctional so there were contractions on top of contractions with no time in between for a breather or time to recoup.  After the dr came back to check me at 1:00 am, and I was 7 cm, I decided it was time for the epidural since we both were exhausted and I couldn't take the pain anymore.

The epidural process was finally over around 2:30 and I was relieved to be pain free for a while so I could rest.  Tim pulled out the couch and we both tried to get some rest since we knew she was going to be born within a matter of a few more hours.  The dr came back around 5:30 and I was 9 cm, and he was attempting to rotate her as she continued to keep her face up, and they come out better face down.  As he was doing this, he accidentally broke my water.  At this point I didn't really realize my water hadn't broken, so I was shocked when that "gush" happened, and so was the nurse and dr.  The proceeded to change the sheets on the bed, mind you I couldn't help much since I was numb, they had to lift me up basically.

There was a staff change at 7:00, so the wonderful Angelene and Chase wouldn't be on staff to deliver our daughter.  We were blessed with another great nurse Rachel, who helped guide me in pushing, which began shortly after the change of staff.  A medical student Trevor also helped with holding with coaching...little did I know until after that Tim was annoyed by him!  I tried to make small talk to help pass the time between pushes, and keep my mind off of the pain and my eyeballs from bulging out of my head!  I pushed for about an hour and a half, but felt like an eternity, and at 8:35 am on Thursday September 15th, our daughter was born!  I week early, and mom was elated she came early!

Proud Dad!

You brought tears to mom and dad's eyes when you arrived.  I am sure this won't be the first time we have tears of joy for you.  You are a blessing to our family, and we loved you long before your birthday.  We cannot wait to watch you grow and experience all this world has to offer you.  Just beware of your father when you get to the dating age! ;)
